Huntingdon joins USA South Athletic Conference

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West announced today that Huntingdon will join the NCAA-Division III USA South Athletic Conference beginning in the fall of 2013. Huntingdon and Covenant College (Ga.) were approved as members at a meeting of the USA South presidents yesterday. Current USA South members are Averett University (Va.), Ferrum College (Va.), Greensboro College (N.C.), Mary Baldwin College (Va.), Meredith College (N.C.), Methodist University (N.C.), N.C. Wesleyan College (N.C.), William Peace University (N.C.), and the conference's newest members, LaGrange College (Ga.), Piedmont College (Ga.), and Maryville College (Tenn.).

Huntingdon Lady Hawks end season in GSAC semis

LaGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team came out strong during the early minutes of Friday's Great South Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. But a more than 10-minute scoring lull and a dominant Maryville team proved too much for the Lady Hawks in a 74-40 loss.
Nine Lady Hawks earn GSAC recognition

DECATUR, Ga. – It’s been a breakthrough season for the Huntingdon women’s basketball team. Coming off a nine-win season in 2011 and a five-win season in 2010, the Lady Hawks are 16-10 entering Friday’s Great South Athletic Conference semifinals. With the release of the GSAC All-Conference awards on Thursday, nine Lady Hawks were recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon used a second-half push to knock off Spelman in the first round of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament on Tuesday night. The Lady Hawks scored 36 points in the final 16 minutes to take a 68-47 win at Roland Arena. Huntingdon (16-10) advances to the GSAC semifinals on Friday in LaGrange. This is the Lady Hawks’ first appearance in the GSAC semifinals since 2009, when Huntingdon lost to Maryville in the tournament championship.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Great South Athletic Conference released the official seeding for the 2012 GSAC basketball tournament late Sunday night. Both the Huntingdon men’s and women’s teams are the No. 4 seed for their tournaments.
Lady Hawks fall to Piedmont in final regular-season game

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women’s basketball team closed out the regular season with an 89-63 loss to Piedmont on Saturday. Huntingdon (15-10, 10-6 Great South Athletic Conference) hung with Piedmont (21-4, 13-3 GSAC) in the first half and trailed 33-26 at halftime. But Piedmont took control in the final 20 minutes. The Lady Lions scored 56 points in the second half.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women’s basketball team fell behind in the first half and couldn’t recover Wednesday night against LaGrange. LaGrange led by 13 at the half and knocked off Huntingdon 90-80 at Roland Arena. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Lady Hawks (15-9, 10-5 Great South Athletic Conference).

ATLANTA, Ga. – For the second time in two days, the Huntingdon women’s basketball team used a 50-point half to take control of a game. Huntingdon scored 51 points in the final 18 minutes to rally past Spelman for an 83-71 win on Sunday. A day earlier, the Lady Hawks used a 52-point first half in a win over Salem.
Lady Hawks basketball cruises to 14th win of the season

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Huntingdon Lady Hawks scored 52 points in the first half and took an 83-61 win over Salem College on Saturday. The Lady Hawks (14-8, 9-4 Great South Athletic Conference) built a quick lead and emptied the bench, with only one starter playing more than 18 minutes. The reserves accounted for 44 points in the game.
Lady Hawks score season-high 80 points to pick up 13th win

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon women’s basketball team turned in its best scoring performance of the season on Wednesday. The Lady Hawks jumped on Covenant early and beat the Lady Scots 80-64. The 80-point effort is the highest scoring output for the Lady Hawks since an 83-82 overtime loss to Rust in Nov. 2009.

Hosting Great South Athletic Conference rival Agnes Scott, Huntingdon had played from behind much of the night. But something changed in the final five minutes. Huntingdon pushed ahead of the Scotties and hung on to win 62-58.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon sophomore Sekal Ousley and her teammates were determined not to have a letdown against Covenant College on Saturday. Coming off a win against then-conference leader LaGrange on Wednesday, the Lady Hawks were on guard against complacency. Still, Huntingdon found itself in an eight-point hole in the second half. The Lady Hawks shook off the deficit and pulled away late for a 72-63 win.
