MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Taking to the pitch at the Samford Soccer Complex for the final time in the 2025 season, Huntingdon Women's Soccer came up short in a 2-1 loss to the Covenant College Scots.
Prior to the start of this afternoon's match, Huntingdon recognized the program's four seniors for their commitment to the program, both on and off the field throughout their time as a Hawk. This year's seniors are:
- #00 Caroline Masker of Slidell, Louisiana
- #4 Maddie Goggans of Fort Payne, Alabama
- #6 Bayleigh Pitts of Panama City, Florida
- #11 Zoe Gerlach of Port St. Joe, Florida
How it happened
In what proved to be a defensive match, the first goal came early, as Covenant tapped a shot past Madelon Machen at the 12:45 mark to stake their early advantage. The Hawks see three solid attempts in the opening half, as Lexie Segar and Xiomara Barnette each saw good looks, but they couldn't break through, taking the one goal deficit into the halftime break. As the second half got underway, Covenant managed to extend their lead to 2-0 just 10 minutes in, putting Huntingdon into a deeper hole coming down the stretch. Not to be outdone however, a corner kick at the 59:58 mark brought life to the Hawks offense; with Greer Kemmett placing a ball into perfect position for Keabetsoe Walker to head one in past the Scots keeper, shrinking the deficit to 2-1 with nearly 30 minutes to go. Coming down the stretch however, the Hawks couldn't find the equalizer, falling to the Scots as Covenant escaped with a 2-1 victory.
