Second Half Surge Pushes MUW Past The Hawks

COLUMBUS, Miss.- Returning to the Magnolia State for the second time this week, Huntingdon Men's Soccer squared off with the Owls of the Mississippi University for Women in a non-conference battle that was a nailbiter all the way through. The Hawks went into halftime nursing a one goal lead, but a late push for MUW propelled the Owls to their 2nd victory of the season, 3-2.

How it happened

The Owls struck quickly, sneaking a shot past Trent Wineberg within the opening 10 minutes to establish a 1-0 advantage. Huntingdon responded quickly however, as Dashun McDonald cashed in off assists from Tate Reynolds and Talan Aibejeris to even things 1-1 by the 20:20 mark. With just four minutes remaining in the half, Tate Reynolds found his way past the MUW keeper, tapping one in to put the Hawks ahead at halftime 2-1.

As the second half got underway, the Hawks went cold offensively. They fired off six shots for the half, none of which hit the mark, allowing for MUW to even things up at the 54:45 mark. With a little less than 15 minutes to go, the Owls scored yet again, taking a 3-2 lead going down the stretch, that ultimately turned into a 3-2 victory.

In the goal

Freshman Trent Wineberg played all 90 minutes in the goal for Huntingdon, surrendering 3 goals to go along with 2 saves in the loss.

The Hawks aim to right the ship on Tuesday, September 23rd at Berry College. Gametime is set for 6:00 PM CT.
