Hawks Fall 2-1 To USSU

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Following their 1-1 draw at LaGrange on Sunday, Huntingdon Men's Soccer(1-2-2 overall) returned to the Samford Soccer Complex this evening for a match with the Eagles of the United States Sports University(1-5-1).  The Hawks held a 1 goal lead at the halftime break, but couldn't hang on, falling 2-1 to their inter-state opponent.

How it happened

Through the opening 15 minutes, neither squad could find their way past their opposition's defense, with Josh Diaz owning the only shot in the early stages. This changed at the 20:22 mark, as Dashun McDonald broke through the Eagles' defense and sent one past the keeper, giving Huntingdon a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. On the other end of the field, the Hawks defense dictated the pace of the game, holding the Eagles without any shot attempts to maintain Huntingdon's slight advantage entering the halftime break.

As the second half got underway, Huntingdon's defense continued to anchor their half of the field. USSU finally broke the ice at the 77:31 mark, tapping one over Trent Wineberg to even things up. They followed up with another goal at the 82 minute mark to take a 2-1 lead. The Hawks tried to respond late, but couldn't recover, falling 2-1.

In the goal

#34 Trent Wineberg played all 90 minutes in the goal for Huntingdon, picking up 5 saves while allowing 2 goals.

The Hawks return to action on September 16th, traveling to face Millsaps. Gametime is set for 6:00 PM CT.
