Men's Lacrosse Captures First Victory At Oglethorpe
ATLANTA, Ga.- Coming off a season-opening loss to Point University, Huntingdon men's lacrosse hit the road for the second game of the season, this time facing off with the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University. With 4 Hawks scoring multiple goals on the night, Huntingdon's offense overwhelmed the Oglethorpe defense, resulting in a 14-6 victory over the Stormy Petrels.
First Quarter
- The first goal of the night belonged to Oglethorpe right at the 11 minute mark, giving the Stormy Petrels the early advantage.
- Their lead proved to be short-lived, with Josh Knost cashing in off an assist from Jaxon Mcmonigle at the 9:12 mark to even things at 1
- Sophomore Connor Angst scored the first of his 4 goals of the night at the 7:14 mark, handing the Hawks their first lead of the game, 2-1
- To close the opening period, Huntingdon went on an offensive tear, featuring goals from Knost, Mason Honeycutt, and Anthony Piazza to bring their lead to 5-1 as the second quarter got underway
Second Quarter
- The Hawks continued to pour it on as the second quarter started, with Kelcey Marston and JT Klam each finding the net in the early stages to push the advantage to 7-1 by the 9:53 mark
- Oglethorpe scored at the 8:36 mark to momentarily stop the bleeding, but Huntingdon kept their rhythm offensively, as Jaxon Mcmonigle and Connor Angst each flew one past the goalie to bring the Hawks halftime lead to 9-2
Third Quarter
- The Stormy Petrels flew out of the gates to start the second half, scoring just 30 seconds in to cut Huntingdon's lead to 9-3
- Kelcey Marston responded with his second goal of the game off an assist from Tristan Dial to bring the Hawks lead to 10-3 by the 10 minute mark
- Jaxon Mcmonigle put a stop to a 3-0 run for Oglethorpe with a goal at the 1:20 mark, bringing the score to 11-6 entering the final quarter
Fourth Quarter
- The first six minutes of the fourth quarter were controlled by each team's defense, with Liam Angst recording 2 saves to keep the Stormy Petrels off the board.
- Connor Angst scored off an assist from Brady Nardella to bring Huntingdon's lead to 12-6 with 9:48 to go
- Back to back goals for Mcmonigle and Connor Angst put a stamp on Huntingdon's impressive performance, solidifying the Hawks 14-6 road victory.
