Offensive Explosion Hands Hawks Big Win Over Ozarks
JACKSON, Miss.- Closing out the 2025 calendar year in emphatic fashion, Huntingdon Men's Basketball concluded at the Millsaps Classic with a massive 101-56 victory over the Ozarks Eagles. Tyler Mallory led the way with a 28 point double-double in 24 minutes to guide the Hawks to a 7-6 record entering the new year and CCS play.
First Half
The scoring came in bunches early on, as Owen LaRocca, Marcus Townsend, and Myles Johnson converted to give the Hawks a slight lead through the opening four minutes. Despite Huntingdon's offensive production early on, the Eagles kept stride, pushing their lead to as much as 21-14 nearing the 10 minute point in the half. In response, the Hawks pieced together a 9-0 run, seeing baskets from Eric Moore, Skyler Stovall, and Tyler Mallory to reclaim a 23-21 lead at the 7:36 mark before an Ozarks triple flipped the lead back to the Eagles on the following possession. Huntingdon, trailing 28-27 with four minutes remaining, closed the half with a 13-0 run, featuring contributions from Isaiah Knight, Eric Moore, Tyler Mallory, Myles Murphy, and Marcus Townsend to enter the break in front 40-28.
Second Half
The 13-0 run at the end of the first half carried over into the second, as hot shooting from Tyler Mallory fueled what turned into a 39-9 dominant stretch for Huntingdon, where 8 Hawks(Jonathan Page, Sam Hailey, Jeremy Autin, Myles Murphy, Marcus Townsend, Owen LaRocca, Tyler Mallory, and Eric Moore) scored and hit a combined 7 three pointers to rapidly extend their lead to 79-40 with 7 minutes remaining in the game. Jaylon Stevenson joined in on the scoring action shortly after with a three of his own to grow the lead to 42, 84-42, by the 6:17 mark, giving Huntingdon an insurmountable advantage. Down the stretch, shots from Page, Stevenson, Kendall Smith, A.J. Taylor, Greg Johnson, and Amarian Griffin iced things away, bringing the final score to 101-56.
The Hawks will open the 2026 year at home, welcoming the CCS preseason-favorite Maryville College to Roland Arena for their first conference matchup of the year. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM CT.
