Hawks Speed Past Pensacola Christian To Complete Season Sweep Of The Eagles
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After needing overtime to claim victory over the Eagles in their contest earlier this season, Huntingdon Men's Basketball put together an all-around solid performance in their 84-54 victory over Pensacola Christian College this afternoon.
First Half
The Hawks flew out to an excellent start, claiming an 11-0 lead through two minutes of play. Tyler Mallory led the run with two triples, which Keyshawn Dickey followed with a three of his own while Marcus Townsend contributed a layup to get things going. Not to be outdone however, Pensacola Christian strung together a run of their own, drawing within three, 15-12, just five minutes later. The Eagles even managed to take a 21-19 lead by the 9:43 mark, which proved to be their first and only lead of the contest. Dickey and Myles Murphy answered with nine of Huntingdon's next 11 points on a 11-2 run that put Huntingdon back ahead 30-21 with 7 minutes remaining in the half. The Eagles continued to battle back whenever the Hawks started to distance themselves, piecing together another run to draw within one, 32-31, by the 3:50 mark, but the rest of the half was all Huntingdon. Townsend, Mallory, and Isaiah Knight each contributed to a 9-0 run in the final three minutes to extend the halftime lead to 10, 41-31.
Second Half
Building off of their momentum generated late in the first half, the Hawks outscored Pensacola Christian 43-23 in the second half to walk away with the 30 point victory. Similar to the start of the first half, things got rolling offensively early for Huntingdon, as Marcus Townsend, Tyler Mallory, and and Keyshawn Dickey each cashed in to extend the lead to 18, 52-34, by the 16 minute mark. Mallory and Murphy kept things going following the run, putting up five straight to widen the gap to 25, 59-34, with 12:30 to go. Huntingdon's lead reached a peak of 34 at the 7:07 mark, as Jeremy Autin, Owen LaRocca, and Jaylon Stevenson converted to bring the score to 79-47 coming down the stretch. Scoring was at a premium inside the final five minutes, but the Hawks maintained their comfortable lead en route to the 84-54 win.
