Hawks Fall At #9 Emory In Rematch Of Last Season's Regional Round
ATLANTA, Ga.- Returning to action for the first time following the Thanksgiving holiday, Huntingdon Men's Basketball traveled to take on #9 ranked Emory University in a rematch of last season's opening contest of the regional round, falling 93-78 to the Eagles inside the Woodruff PE Center.
First Half
Emory, maintaining one of the most efficient offense's in the nation, jumped out of the gates to a 20-5 lead by the 13:47 mark. The senior pairing of Myles Murphy and Marcus Townsend combined to generate the Hawks first points of the contest, but a series of turnovers allowed for the Eagles to snatch the early momentum. Keyshawn Dickey cashed in on a layup at the 13:41 mark to momentarily stop the bleeding, but the deficit grew to as much as 31-11 nearing the midway point in the half. From this point however, Huntingdon began to gather some rhythm of their own offensively, as Marcus Townsend, Isaiah Knight, and Owen LaRocca led a 13-3 run that brought the score to 34-24 with eight and a half minutes to go until halftime. A 12-2 Emory run restored the Eagles 20 point lead shortly thereafter, and the Hawks entered halftime facing a 56-36 deficit.
Second Half
Differing from the first half of play, Huntingdon outscored their nationally ranked opponent 42-37 in the second half to bring a final score of 93-78 in favor of the Eagles. Emory's first half success carried in the early parts of the half, as they extended their lead to as much as 27, 73-46, through the first five minutes, but the Hawks soon hit their stride. Myles Johnson and Marcus Townsend led the Hawks on a 7-0 swing in response, cutting the deficit to 73-53 with 13:37 remaining in the contest. Isaiah Knight's triple at the 9 minute mark brought the difference back inside of 20 for the first time since the opening half, bringing the score to 77-60 coming down the stretch. Through the remainder of the contest, Huntingdon outpaced Emory to the tune of 18-16, finding offensive success late on the road, but the Hawks couldn't complete their comeback efforts, falling to 3-3 on the season.
