Hawks Go Cold In Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss.- Following up on their resounding 20-point victory in their season opener at Toccoa Falls, Huntingdon Men's Basketball couldn't find their rhythm offensively, shooting 35% from the field and 20% from the three point line in a 89-61 loss at MUW. 

First Half

  • The Owls caught fire at the start of the game, opening things up with an 8-0 run through the first six minutes. Huntingdon finally got on the scoreboard at the 14:22 mark following a Marcus Townsend layup, but the Hawks still trailed 10-2 nearing the 13 minute mark
  • Huntingdon started to find some traction midway through the half, as Townsend, Myles Murphy, and Owen LaRocca pieced together a scoring spurt that brought the Hawks within seve, 19-12, by the 9:48 mark.
  • Eric Moore's triple at the 7:23 mark brought Huntingdon within five, 22-17, but the Owls responded with a run that handed MUW a double-digit advantage, 33-22, with 3:52 remaining in the half
  • The Owls kept the hot hand, closing the half on a 12-0 run to put Huntingdon down 45-23 headed into the locker room.

Second Half

  • The second half saw more of the same, as a 13-0 MUW run to get things going saw the Hawks fall behind by as much as 32, 57-25 by the 15:54 mark. Huntingdon's first points of the half came 10 seconds later, as Tyler Mallory knifed through the lane to convert a layup that brought the deficit back to 30.
  • Trailing 70-35 with 11 minutes to go, Mallory and the Hawks pieced together a 13-4 scoring run that brought the score to 74-46 nearing the 8 minute mark
  • A duo of Jeremy Autin and Tyler Mallory tried to spark a comeback, cashing in on multiple possessions to bring the score to 78-55 with 5 minutes to go, but MUW remained solid, maintaining control en route to the 89-61 victory.

The Hawks will look to bounce back at home on Friday, November 14th as they play host to Millsaps College for day one of the Hawk Classic. Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM CT.
