Barrett Stars As Huntingdon Claims Road Victory Over N.C. Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, NC.- Coming off a narrow 15-14 victory at home against Pfeiffer, Huntingdon Women's Lacrosse hit the road for another USA South conference matchup, this time taking on the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan University.

The Hawks fell behind early but stormed back, with Reagan Barrett's seven goals leading Huntingdon to a 15-9 victory.

How it happened

The Battling Bishops grabbed control of the game early, taking a 2-0 lead in the opening five minutes. Reagan Barrett cashed in off an assist from Kate Hudson to stop the bleeding at the 8:46 mark, but another N.C. Wesleyan goal maintained a two-goal separation between the teams, 3-1, with 8 minutes remaining in the period. Barrett and Khrystal Graham each put in unassisted goals as the quarter came to a close to even things at 3.

The Hawks claimed their first lead of the game at the 13:35 mark in the second quarter, as Reagan Barrett cashed in for the third time of the first half to give Huntingdon a 4-3 lead. The Battling Bishops answered with a goal at the 13:18 mark to tie the score at 4, but three consecutive goals from Payton Hill, Reagan Barrett, and Khrystal Graham put Huntingdon in front 7-4 at halftime.

Kate Hudson started the second half on an offensive tear, scoring three goals in a row in the first five minutes to push the Huntingdon lead to 10-4. Payton Hill and Reagan Barrett tacked on goals of their own to follow, extending the lead to 12-4 with two minutes remaining in the quarter. N.C. Wesleyan put in a shot to stop the bleeding, but Huntingdon still led 12-5 with one quarter to go.

The Battling Bishops opened the final quarter with a goal to cut Huntingdon's lead to 12-6, but Barrett continued to lead the Hawks offense, scoring at the 12:36 mark to extend the lead back to seven, 13-6. She answered another Battling Bishop goal with her 7th of the game to bring the score to 14-7 with ten minutes to go. N.C. Wesleyan's final two goals came with 9:34 and 3:20 to go, cutting the Huntingdon lead to 14-9, but Payton Hill's shot with 48 seconds remaining iced the game, handing the Hawks a 15-9 conference victory.

Angelina Tran moved to 4-1 on the season, recording 7 saves on 16 shot attempts as she played all 60 minutes.
