Women's Lacrosse Slated 8th In Preseason USA South Coaches Poll

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- The USA South Athletic Conference's women's lacrosse coaches have released their 2025 preseason poll. Head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Huntingdon was picked to finish 8th in the conference with a total of 26 votes. Meredith was placed atop the rankings thanks to receiving 80 total points and eight of the possible ten first place votes. Last spring, the Avenging Angels captured their tenth consecutive USA South tournament title. Their streak of seven straight regular season crowns was snapped by Methodist, who sits second in the poll with 74 total points and the remaining two first place votes. The Monarchs captured the program's second League regular season championship with an unblemished 9-0 record. Rounding out the top-three was Piedmont who grabbed 65 points.

The 2025 USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. The top-eight seeded teams will advance to postseason play which will begin with first round action on Saturday, April 26. The higher-seeded team in each first round contest will serve as the host. The semifinals will take place Thursday, May 1 with the finals occurring on Saturday, May 3. The highest-remaining seed after first round play will host each semifinal contest as well as the championship.

Entering the program's first season with coach Brandon Sewell at the helm, the Hawks open the year by hosting the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe University on February 18th. They then travel to Warren Wilson before facing William Peace at home on March 8th. After their showdown with the Pacers, the Hawks travel to NAIA Truett-McConnell on March 13th for their final non-conference matchup of the season.

To close out the month of March, Huntingdon hosts Pfeiffer on the 15th before embarking on a two-game road trip to NC Wesleyan and Piedmont before facing off with the Brevard Tornadoes at home on the 29th. To close the regular season, the Hawks play their lone home game of the month on April 12th against Meredith, while they travel to Methodist, Greensboro, and Southern Virginia.

The Hawks will turn to the leadership of Colby Jones in the earlier stages of the season. Serving as the teams lone senior, her experience will be pivotal as she takes the field alongside 4 freshman and 3 sophomores. Junior Kate Hudson returns as the teams leading scorer. After scoring 21 of the Hawks goals last season, she looks to anchor Huntingdon's attack as the season gets underway.
