Hawks Fall To Trinity In Regional Opener
SEGUIN, Texas- Entering the Seguin Regional hosted by Texas Lutheran University as the #2 seed, Huntingdon Softball dropped their opening-round matchup 2-1 at the hands of the #3 seeded Trinity University Tigers.
The Tigers struck first with single runs in the opening two frames, but the Hawks answered in the bottom of the third. Maddie Grace Hubbard reached base and later scored on an RBI single from Kylie Stephens, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Huntingdon offense.
Taylor Au and Payton Gilchrist also recorded hits for the Hawks, while Hubbard drew two walks and scored the team's lone run. Huntingdon threatened early, collecting three hits through the first three innings, but Trinity pitching held the Hawks to just one hit the rest of the way.
Inside the circle, Allie Roberts turned in another strong outing, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out two. Addison Gaines tossed a scoreless seventh inning in relief to keep the Hawks within striking distance late.
With the loss, the Hawks are now set to take on Penn. State Behrend, the #4 seed in the regional, in a win or go home matchup tomorrow, May 15th. First pitch is set for 1:30 PM CT.
