Hawks Roll Past Piedmont, Advance In CCS Tournament
OXFORD, Ala.- Squaring off with 3 seeded Piedmont University following the Lions opening round victory over LaGrange yesterday, Huntingdon Softball secured their 30th win of the season in an 11-3, six winning victory.
After Piedmont grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first, Huntingdon answered in the second when Kaylin Fincher ripped a two-run double to put the Hawks in front. Piedmont tied the game in the third, but Huntingdon responded immediately with a three-run bottom half. Kate Dinkel delivered a two-run double before Riley Rudick added an RBI single to make it 5-2.
The Hawks added two more in the fourth, highlighted by another RBI knock from Rudick and a Piedmont throwing error. After the Lions scored in the fifth, Huntingdon put the game away with a four-run sixth inning. Dinkel opened the frame with an RBI triple, Rudick followed with an RBI double, and Payton Gilchrist plus M. Hubbard each drove in runs to end it.
Dinkel led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double, triple, three runs scored, and three RBI. Rudick was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while Hubbard reached base five times with a hit, four walks, two runs scored, and an RBI. Kylie Stephens also added two hits and two runs scored.
In the circle, McKenzie Little improved to 7-0 after tossing four strong relief innings, allowing one run while striking out four. Allie Roberts started and struck out four over the first two innings.
With the win, the Hawks will now square off with the #4 seeded Maryville College Scots tomorrow, May 1st, at 11:00 AM. The winner of that contest will advance to the championship round.
