Hawks Split Double-Header At #5 Berry
MOUNT BERRY, Ga.- Following their successful weekend in Columbus at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, #9 Huntingdon Softball returned to The Peach State for a double-header with the #5 Vikings of Berry College, walking away with a 5-3 win in the first game before falling 9-3 in the second.
Game One
Huntingdon used timely hitting and a complete-game performance in the circle from Allie Roberts to take the opener.
The Hawks struck first in the second inning when Maddie Grace Hubbard singled to center to score Riley Rudick. Huntingdon added three more runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run double from Rudick that plated Kate Dinkel and Amaya Wommack. Kamryn Miller followed with an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 4–0.
Huntingdon added an insurance run in the fifth when Hubbard worked an RBI walk to bring home Kinley Hutto and push the advantage to 5–0.
Berry mounted a late push with two runs in the fifth and another in the seventh, but Roberts held firm to secure the win. The junior improved to 6–0 after allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one.
Rudick led the Hawks offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Hubbard added two hits and two RBIs, while Kylie Stephens also recorded two hits in the victory.
Game Two
After Berry scored an unearned run in the second, the Hawks answered in the fourth. Taylor Au scored on a Kaylin Fincher RBI groundout before Riley Rudick doubled to right field to bring home Kate Dinkel and give Huntingdon a 2–1 lead. Berry quickly regained momentum in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 5–2 advantage. The Vikings added another run in the fifth before taking advantage of a pair of Huntingdon errors to score three more and extend the lead to 9–3.
Huntingdon added its final run in the fifth when Kamryn Miller scored on a Berry error.
Dinkel paced the Hawks at the plate in game two, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Rudick added an RBI double, while Au, Miller and Payton Gilchrist each recorded a hit.
Now boasting a 14-3 record entering conference play, the Hawks will look to keep rolling at home on Saturday against Wesleyan College in a CCS Double-Header. Games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM CT.
