Gilchrist And Gaines Bring Home CCS Weekly Softball Awards
ATLANTA, Ga.- Each piecing together comprehensively solid opening weekend's to guide Huntingdon to an early 2-1 record, Payton Gilchrist and Addison Gaines have each brought home Collegiate Conference of the South weekly softball awards.
Earning her first selection as the CCS Player of the Week in her senior seasn, Atmore, Alabama native Payton Gilchrist provided steady and efficient production at the plate as Huntingdon opened its season with a 2–1 series victory over Millsaps. The senior catcher collected four hits over the weekend, including two doubles, while driving in two runs and scoring twice. Gilchrist hit .667 during the series and did not record a strikeout, helping fuel the nationally ranked Hawks' offense in the opening weekend.
Hailing from Peachtree City, Georgia, Addison Gaines, the reigning CCS Rookie Pitcher of the Year, delivered a dominant performance in the circle to earn her first win of the season during Huntingdon's opening-day sweep of Millsaps. In a 4-0 shutout victory, the sophomore allowed just one hit while striking out 10 batters. Over the weekend, Gaines totaled 14 strikeouts across 11 innings pitched.
Gilchrist and Gaines will look to lead the Hawks as they prepare for their home tournament, the Firehouse Classic, this weekend. Huntingdon will kick things off on February 21st against MUW. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM CT.
