#16 Softball Stumbles Against Millsaps

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Closing out their series with the Majors this afternoon, #16 Huntingdon Softball couldn't find their rhythm following their back-to-back wins last night, suffering an 8-5 loss to Millsaps at home.

Millsaps got the ball rolling early, scoring two runs off a pair of Huntingdon errors to grab a 2-0 lead. The Hawks cut into the lead in the bottom of the third with a Maddie Grace Hubbard run on a passed ball, which Kylie Stephens followed with an RBI to score Amaya Wommack and even things up by the end of the fourth. Not to be outdone, the Majors strung together two runs in the fifth to reclaim a two-run lead, 4-2, but Huntingdon quickly responded with two runs of their own in the bottom frame to knot things back up. Kate Dinkel made the play, singling to bring home Elli Lorance and Hubbard while setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Down the stretch, Millsaps made the most of their opportunities, scoring 4 runs in the 7th inning to just 1 for the Hawks en route to their 8-5 upset victory.

Allie Roberts drew the start today and fell to 1-1 on the season, with Addison Gaines and Madisyn Fruge also seeing time in the circle.

The Hawks will have an opportunity to bounce back at home as they kick off the Firehouse Classic on February 21st with a double-header against MUW and Mt. St. Joseph. Games are set for 12:00 and 2:00 PM CT.
