DEMOREST, Ga.- In search of their first CCS victory since the inception of the conference in 2022, Huntingdon Men's Soccer hit the road for a contest at Piedmont University- a team the Hawks have not defeated since 2021. After playing to a 0-0 draw through the opening 45 minutes, the Hawks rattled off three second half goals to down the Lions in a historic road victory for the program.
How it happened
As mentioned before, neither side could grab an advantage in the first half. Piedmont outshot Huntingdon 8-2 as things got going, but Trent Wineberg and the Hawks defense remained solid, keeping the Lions off the scoreboard to maintain the 0-0 score at the half.
The Hawks broke things open 16 minutes into the second half, as Josh Diaz tapped in his second goal of the season off an assist from Exavier Ali to put Huntingdon in front 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Dashun McDonald found his way past the Piedmont keeper on a penalty kick, extending the lead to 2-0 before he scored yet again at the 65:32 mark, bringing the score to 3-0 coming down the stretch. Piedmont put one up on the scoreboard inside the final 10 minutes, but the Hawks held on, claiming a 3-1 victory over the current conference third seed.
In the goal
#34 Trent Wineberg secured the second victory of his collegiate career, recording 7 saves through 90 minutes.
The Hawks return to the Samford Soccer Complex for Senior Day on October 22nd, hosting LaGrange College. Gametime is set for 6:00 PM CT.
