Trent Wineberg Named Alabama Power Huntingdon Student Athlete Of The Week
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Following his performance in Huntingdon's 0-0 draw against Asbury in the Hawks CCS opener, freshman goalkeeper Trent Wineberg has been recognized as the third Alabama Power Huntingdon Student Athlete of the Week.
Playing all 90 minutes in the goal for the Hawks, Wineberg's presence has quickly become a staple in Huntingdon's defensive efforts this season. It was particularly evident in the Hawks conference-opener this Saturday, as the Huntingdon kept Asbury, the highest-scoring offense in the league, off the board en route to a 0-0 draw. Through 90 minutes, Huntingdon limited the Eagles to just 16 total shots, with only four of them being attempts on goal. Wineberg, proving his composure, saved all four attempts, keeping Asbury off the board and securing the first shutout of his collegiate career.
Throughout the season to this point, Trent's 'clutch gene" has been on full display. Of his 60 saves on the year, the majority have come in the second half of games, including several penalty kick situations. In his first collegiate appearance, Wineberg found himself in a penalty kick situation with three minutes to go in a 3-3 match. Not only did Trent keep the penalty kick out, but he also collected a save on the rebound to keep the game at a draw. His presence in the goal for Huntingdon has certainly been a bright spot for Robert Spain's Hawks in his first year at the helm.
