DESTIN, Fla. – The second-ranked Huntingdon men's golf team shot a 3-over-par 287 in the first round of the Division III Golfweek Fall Invitational on Sunday.
The Hawks are seven strokes out of first and in fourth entering Monday's second round at the Raven Golf Club. Seventh-ranked Concordia (Texas) leads the field of 18 teams with a 4-under 280. The University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) is second with an even-par 284 and sixth-ranked Guilford is third with a 2-over 286.
All five Huntingdon golfers are within eight strokes of first. Junior Stephen Shephard led the Hawks in Round 1 with a 2-under 69 and is two strokes out of first and tied for sixth.
Illinois Wesleyan's Conner O'Neil and St. Thomas' Pete Sienko are tied for first at 4-under 67.

Director of Golf Dave Schreyer on Round 1: "We had a great start today, but our candle burned out on the back-nine and we made a ton of mistakes. Learning to play with a lead is new to this team, so it is good to be in these situations. We're getting better each time out and we're looking forward to Round 2."
