  • Limbaugh named head men’s golf coach at Vanderbilt

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Former Huntingdon golfer and golf coach Scott Limbaugh was named the head men's golf coach at Vanderbilt University on Thursday. Limbaugh, a 2003 Huntingdon graduate, spent the past five seasons as the assistant men's golf coach at the University of Alabama.

    HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Huntingdon men's golf team tied for the second lowest round on the final day of the NCAA Division III National Championship to finish 10th. The Hawks shot 12-over-par 300 on Friday on the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort. Huntingdon finished the tournament with a four-round total of 1204.
  • Strachan and Schmutz lead Hawks in third round of National Championship

    HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Juniors Sam Strachan and Tyler Schmutz turned in the best rounds for Huntingdon on Thursday in the third round of the NCAA Division III National Championship. Both golfers shot 3-over-par 75 on the El Campeon Course at Mission Inn Resort. Strachan, who shot 74 and 71 in the first two rounds, is 13 strokes out of first and tied for 10th at 220 entering Friday's final round. The round was the best of the tournament for Schmutz, who is tied for 52nd at 230 after 54 holes.
  • Mitchell’s 67 leads Huntingdon in second round of National Championship

    HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Huntingdon freshman Thomas Mitchell shot his best collegiate round and the Huntingdon golf team climbed nine spots in the second round of the NCAA Division III National Championship. Mitchell fired a 5-under-par 67 on Wednesday on the Las Colinas course at Mission Inn Resort and Huntingdon shot the second lowest round of the day with a 289. Transylvania turned in a 288 for the best round on Wednesday.

The Hawks are tied for 20th entering the second round of the tournament on Wednesday. Huntingdon will tee off beginning at 9:20 a.m. CST.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West announced today that Huntingdon will join the NCAA-Division III USA South Athletic Conference beginning in the fall of 2013. Huntingdon and Covenant College (Ga.) were approved as members at a meeting of the USA South presidents yesterday. Current USA South members are Averett University (Va.), Ferrum College (Va.), Greensboro College (N.C.), Mary Baldwin College (Va.), Meredith College (N.C.), Methodist University (N.C.), N.C. Wesleyan College (N.C.), William Peace University (N.C.), and the conference's newest members, LaGrange College (Ga.), Piedmont College (Ga.), and Maryville College (Tenn.).
  • Huntingdon men’s golf team headed to NCAA Championships for 8th straight year

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's golf team is heading back to the NCAA Division III Championships. The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Committee announced the tournament's field on Monday. The championships will be played May 15-18 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. This is eighth straight year the Hawks have reached the NCAA Championships. Counting Huntingdon's final three seasons in NAIA, this is the 11th straight year the golf program has reached a championship tournament.

The Hawks are in second and trail tournament leader LaGrange by 12 strokes. The Panthers shot 301 in the first round. Maryville is third at 315, Covenant is fourth at 321 and Piedmont is fifth at 341.

    ATLANTA – Huntingdon shaved eight strokes off its first-round total and shot 301 in the final round of the Emory Spring Invitational on Tuesday. The Hawks finished 13th, shooting a 610 in the two-round tournament at Druid Hills Golf Club.

    MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – All five Huntingdon golfers shot 76 or better as the Hawks wrapped up the UNA Spring Classic with a 290 on Tuesday. Huntingdon finished third in the three-round tournament with a score of 886. The University of North Alabama won the tournament with an 859 at the Shoals' Fighting Joe Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Wilmington (DE) was second with an 885.

    MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Huntingdon men's golf team shot 304 and 292 on Monday in the first two rounds of the UNA Spring Classic. Entering Tuesday's final round at the Shoals' Fighting Joe Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, the Hawks are in fourth at 596. The University of North Alabama leads the tournament at 573, Wilmington (DE) is second at 587 and Midwestern State is third at 595.

    JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Steven Smith shot Huntingdon's low round on Sunday and Jamey Lester led the Hawks in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational. Smith shot an even-par 72 in the final round at Jekyll Island Country Club and Lester finished the three-round tournament with at 7-over-par 223.

As a team, four Huntingdon golfers shot in the 70s and the Hawks shot 303 on Saturday at Jekyll Island Country Club. Entering the final round, Huntingdon is at 612 and tied for 22nd.

Three Hawks shot in the 70s and Huntingdon finished with a 309 at the Jekyll Island Country Club. Despite the solid showing, the Hawks need to make up ground in next two rounds.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon junior Sam Strachan spent a little extra time working on his game after the first round of the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals on Monday. It paid off in Tuesday’s final round at Wynlakes Golf & Country Club. Strachan shaved seven strokes off his first-round score, fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round and finished with a 36-hole total of 147. Strachan edged Birmingham-Southern’s Michael Wallace for the individual title by one stroke.

Huntingdon is five strokes in front of the defending Division III national champion.

Playing in the second round of the Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational at the Raven Golf Club, the Hawks’ top three scores were similar to Sunday’s first round, but the Hawks dropped five spots in the team standings. Huntingdon was 10th after the first round and is 15th entering Tuesday’s final round.

Huntingdon shot a final round score of 313 to drop from fourth place to seventh place. The Hawks finished with a three-round total of 913. Methodist University won the tournament with an 889. Illinois Wesleyan and Guilford College tied for second at 903.

    HOWEY IN THE HILLS, Fla. – The Huntingdon men’s golf team made a strong push Monday in the second round of the Gordin Classic NCAA D3 National Championship Preview at Mission Inn Resort & Club. The Hawks shot the third best round of the day to climb back into the hunt for the tournament title. Huntingdon was in third on Sunday before a disqualification for signing an inaccurate scorecard dropped the Hawks to 12th.
