Kalen Stapp Named USA South Defensive Player & Defensive Rookie Of The Week

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- At the conclusion of week 3 of the 2025 Football season, the USA South Athletic Conference has unveiled their slate of weekly awards. 

Freshman safety and hero of the Hawks victory over McMurry, Kalen Stapp, has been recognized as the league's Defensive Player and Defensive Rookie of the Week. 

The Social Circle, Georgia freshman safety grabbed two interceptions, the second of which he took back 80 yards on the final play of the game to defeat McMurry, 52-46, last week. With McMurray attempting to win the game in regulation on a Hail Mary, Stapp picked the ball off and returned it for the winning score. His first interception came in the middle of the second quarter.

Stapp and the Hawks enter their bye week in week four, and return to Samford Stadium on October 4th to open conference play on homecoming against Methodist. Gametime is set for 1:00 PM CT.
