Hawks Fall To Maryville In CCS Tournament First Round

PEARL, Miss.- Opening the 2026 CCS Baseball Tournament as the #4 seed, Huntingdon Baseball dropped their opening round matchup to the #3 seeded Maryville Scots in a tightly contested battle, 3-2. 

The Hawks were held scoreless through seven innings before breaking through in the top of the eighth. Jabez Sampson and Drew Jolley both came around to score when Ty Pruitt ripped a two-run single down the right field line, knotting the game at 2-2. Pruitt finished with two RBIs to lead the Huntingdon offense.

Maryville answered in the bottom half of the inning, using a hit and a Huntingdon error to bring home the eventual winning run.

MD Johnson turned in a strong outing on the mound for the Hawks, tossing seven innings and allowing two runs while striking out three. Will Argo was charged with the loss in relief.

Sampson, Jolley, Blayne McDaniel, Sam Kelley, Brent Cadenhead, and Pruitt each recorded hits for Huntingdon.

With the loss, the Hawks will face top-seeded Piedmont on Saturday, May 2nd at 9:00 AM CT as they face elimination.
