Hawks Drop Series Opener At #22 Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn.- Continuing their CCS road stretch, Huntingdon Baseball dropped their series opener tonight at the hands of the #22-ranked Maryville College Scots, 8-5.

The Hawks struck first with a three-run opening inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Brodie Holcomb and an RBI single from Jabez Sampson. Huntingdon added another in the second on an RBI knock by Blayne McDaniel to take a 4-2 advantage.

Maryville answered decisively in the fourth, taking a 6-4 lead before adding another run later in the inning to stretch the margin. An RBI double in the sixth pushed the Scots' lead to 8-4.

Holcomb led the Huntingdon offense, finishing with two doubles and three RBI, while McDaniel and Sampson each added two hits. Despite outhitting Maryville 10-10 evenly, the Hawks were hurt by six walks and a pivotal fourth inning.

Huntingdon scratched across a run in the ninth on Holcomb's second RBI double, but the rally fell short.

On the mound, Jacob McFarling took the loss after allowing six runs in three innings, while Ben Mosely and Charlie Morgan closed things out.

The Hawks will look to answer tomorrow in a double-header to decide the series. Games are set for 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM CT.
