Hawks Close Out Piedmont Series With Senior Day Victory
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- After falling in the first two games against the Lions, Huntingdon Baseball returned to Neal Posey Field for the final time in the 2025 regular season in their third and final matchup with Piedmont University.
After falling behind early, 3-0, the Hawks stormed back with four runs in the third inning to put themselves into position for a 7-4 conference victory.
Prior to the start of today's game, Huntingdon recognized the program's four seniors for their dedication to the program, both off and on the field, throughout their time as a Hawk. This year's senior class consists of Cade Morgan, James Chorey, Evan Clark, and Robbie Gallagher.
How it happened
Piedmont struck first in the opening frame, bringing a runner across on a ground-out to take a 1-0 lead early. The Lions expanded upon their lead in the third inning, pushing two runs through as their lead grew to 3-0 before the start of the third inning.
Huntingdon's first run of the game came by way of an error, as a Piedmont overthrow allowed for Brent Cadenhead to score, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Brodie Holcomb followed at the next at-bat with a single to left field, scoring Cade Morgan as the Hawks drew within one, 3-2. Shortly after, Byron McLain was walked, bringing home Sam Kelley to tie things at 3 before James Chorey's RBI single scored Holcomb to put Huntingdon ahead, 4-3 entering the fourth inning. A quiet fourth inning allowed for the Hawks to extend the advantage in the fifth, as Holcomb made his way home again off a RBI single from McLain, bringing the Huntingdon lead to 5-3. A Hawks throwing error in the sixth inning allowed for Piedmont to cut the lead to 5-4, but Blayne McDaniel's RBI single in the seventh kept the Hawks in front, scoring Dalton Kuhn as the lead grew to 6-4. To ice things away in the eighth inning, Holcomb scored his third run of the day on a passed ball, handing the Hawks a 7-4 victory.
On the mound
Evan Clark drew the start on the mound but it was Will Argo who brought home the win, making it his first of the season. Pitching 4.2 innings, Argo limited the Lions to just one hit and one run before Brent Cadenhead slid from third base to the mound, collecting his eighth save of the season in the final two innings.
The Hawks return to conference play at LaGrange on April 24th, kicking off their series with the Panthers. Gametime is set for 6:00 PM CT.
