Hawks Baseball Finds Their Groove Against MUW
MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Entering tonight's contest on a three-game losing streak, Huntingdon baseball took to Neal Posey Field for the first time this season, squaring off with the Owls of MUW. Boosted by 10 hits, the Hawks jumped ahead early and never looked back, taking their first victory of the season 8-0.
After forcing the Owls to go three-up and three-down in the opening frame, the Hawks struck first, with Sam Kelley's double bringing home Brodie Holcomb to make the score 1-0. Hawks starting pitcher Jacob McFarling made quick work of the opposition to get things going in the second inning, allowing just one hit before retiring the side. Huntingdon capitalized, with Brent Cadenhead bringing home Ty Pruitt to open things up, putting the Hawks ahead 2-0. Cadenhead then crossed home plate himself on a passed ball, upping the Huntingdon lead to 3-0 before Cade Morgan's single that sent home Jay Davidson and Jabez Sampson brought the score to 5-0 entering the third inning.
A quiet third inning made way for another offensively sound fourth inning for the Hawks, with a walk bringing in Cadenhead to raise the Huntingdon lead to 6-0. Runs from Davidson and Brent Honaker in the 7th and 8th innings combined with solid pitching from McFarling and Evan Clark allowed for the Hawks to walk away with the 8-0 victory.
McFarling pitched 7 innings for the Hawks, striking out 10 Owls while just giving up 6 hits, allowing for the Hawks to get ahead. Evan Clark finished things off in the final two innings with 3 strikeouts and 1 hit allowed.
The Hawks return to action against MUW tomorrow, February 15th, with a double-header. The first game is scheduled for 1:00 PM with the second game to follow.
