MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sophomore Carden Mellown threw a two-hitter but the Huntingdon baseball team came up short in a 2-0 loss to Greensboro College on Friday night.
Mellown (4-2) took the loss despite carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning, striking out nine, walking four and allowing one earned run in nine innings. He faced more than three batters in an inning twice.
But Huntingdon could not take advantage of its offensive opportunities. The Hawks ended three innings with runners in scoring position, including the seventh inning when Huntingdon loaded the bases with one out.
Greensboro scored one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth. In the fifth inning, after reaching on an error, the Pride scored on a delayed steal with two outs. In the sixth inning, Greensboro used a triple to put a runner in scoring position and scored on an error.
