Huntingdon’s Brown and Lowman earn All-Region recognition from

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon junior Grant Brown and freshman Grant Lowman recently received All-Region recognition from This is the first time has released All-Region teams.

Brown was chosen as a second-team All-South selection at designated hitter and Lowman was a third-team selection at pitcher.

"They are both extremely deserving of this," Huntingdon baseball coach D.J. Conville said. "Both of them are coming off injuries that caused them to miss last year. The way they bounced back this season and the quality year each of them had, that really made a difference for our team. I hope they stay hungry and continue to build off of this next season."

Brown missed the 2011 season with a shoulder injury and Lowman missed 2011 with an elbow injury.

"I wasn't expecting to get this kind of recognition," Lowman said. "Coming off of surgery, I really didn't know what to expect this season. I have to thank my coaches, they helped me deal with it and get through it.

"I'm glad Brown was recognized too. He is a good guy and he is always working hard to get better. It was nice to see him be able to come back from his injury and have the kind of year he had."

A native of Wagarville, Ala., Brown played in all 42 games and led the Hawks in batting average (.398), hits (68), runs (45), doubles (17) and stolen bases (21) and was tied for third in RBIs (30). He also had three triples and two home runs.

"Brown has a great work ethic and he is tough as nails," Conville said. "He's a pretty good two-strike hitter, he has fair power and he runs well. He is a good offensive player and a great leader."

Lowman, a right-handed pitcher from Huntsville, emerged as a solid presence on the mound this season.

Lowman finished with a 7-1 record, 59 strikeouts and a 2.14 ERA in 71 1/3 innings pitched. He led the team in each category.

"Lowman is a gifted young man," Conville said. "He's an intelligent player and he doesn't really get rattled. If you were just watching his demeanor on the mound, you wouldn't know if we were ahead 3-1 or behind 3-1. One of the best attributes for a pitcher is being able to maintain that calm demeanor."

Huntingdon could receive more All-Region recognition in the near future when the American Baseball Coaches Association releases its All-Region teams. Last season, the ABCA released its teams in early June.
