FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon men's lacrosse player Matt Murphy was chosen as one of the USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.
The senior was named the Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second time this season the McDonough, Ga., native has earned the recognition and the fifth time a Huntingdon defender has been recognized this spring.
Murphy was recognized for his performance in an 18-7 win over Pfeiffer. In a battle for first place in the USA South standings, Murphy faced 22 shots and recorded 15 saves. He also had three ground balls and caused one turnover.
For the season, Murphy leads the conference with 182 saves and a 9.45 goals allowed average and is second in the USA South with a 58.9 save percentage. For goalies with more than 800 minutes played this season, Murphy's goals allowed average leads Division III.
