MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's basketball team is looking to build off of the success of last season.
It was a season that saw the Lady Hawks qualify for the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament for the first time and win 20 games for the first time during the NCAA era.
Harp, a first-team All-Conference selection last season and the program's career leader in blocked shots, averaged a double-double with 15.3 points and 11.8 rebounds per game last season. Duncan was the team's fourth leading scorer with 6.5 points per game, led the team with 92 assists and 60 steals and was second on the team with 163 rebounds.
Huntingdon opens the season on Thursday at home in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. The Lady Hawks will play Pensacola Christian at 6 p.m.
Head Coach Buzz Phillips on the mix of experience and newcomers leading the team: "We won 20 games last year and we have several returners from that team. The experience and leadership of the returning players is going to be a big key. We also have some transfers and freshmen who we feel are going to contribute and help us out this season."
Phillips on this year's team captains: "Juliette and T.I. were selected as team captains and they are both good choices. Being a captain is a big responsibility and both of them will lead this team on and off the court."
