Huntingdon’s season ends in NCAA Regional
TYLER, Texas – The Huntingdon softball team's post season run came to an end Saturday on the second day of the NCAA Division III Regional at the University of Texas-Tyler. Huntingdon fell behind early as Birmingham-Southern took an 8-1 win. The Panthers built a 3-1 lead in the first three innings and added five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Huntingdon softball falls in first round of NCAA Regional
TYLER, Texas – The Huntingdon softball team got off to a tough start in the first round of the Division III Regional at the University of Texas-Tyler. The Lady Hawks were held to one hit as fourth-ranked Pacific Lutheran took an 8-0 win in five innings.

Lady Hawks hope to make most of first NCAA Regional
TYLER, Texas – Huntingdon softball coach Gynger Williams wanted to test her team this season. With goals of a conference championship and a regional berth, Williams and the Lady Hawks hit the road early in the season. In the course of 13 straight road games to open the season, Huntingdon took on Division I and NAIA teams as well as the top-ranked team in Division III – Emory. The immediate result was a 7-6 start to the season. But the early challenges helped build a team that doesn't back down.

Huntingdon joins USA South Athletic Conference
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Huntingdon College President J. Cameron West announced today that Huntingdon will join the NCAA-Division III USA South Athletic Conference beginning in the fall of 2013. Huntingdon and Covenant College (Ga.) were approved as members at a meeting of the USA South presidents yesterday. Current USA South members are Averett University (Va.), Ferrum College (Va.), Greensboro College (N.C.), Mary Baldwin College (Va.), Meredith College (N.C.), Methodist University (N.C.), N.C. Wesleyan College (N.C.), William Peace University (N.C.), and the conference's newest members, LaGrange College (Ga.), Piedmont College (Ga.), and Maryville College (Tenn.).

Huntingdon softball to face 5th-ranked Pacific Lutheran in NCAA Regional
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team gathered early for Monday's announcement. A little more than a week since clinching their first berth in a NCAA Regional, the Lady Hawks were ready for the NCAA Division III Selection Show to begin. Once the selection show started, it didn't take long for the Lady Hawks to see what they had been waiting for. As the bracket for the University of Texas-Tyler Regional was filled in, the room erupted in cheers as Huntingdon's first-round game with Pacific Lutheran was displayed.

Huntingdon softball wins GSAC, advances to NCAA Regional for first time
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon softball team had one goal entering this weekend's Great South Athletic Conference tournament. A year after losing two games on the final day of the tournament and finishing as the runner-up, the Lady Hawks were determined to finish the job this season. Huntingdon knocked off Maryville 7-2 on Sunday to claim its first GSAC tournament title since 2006.

Lady Hawks advance to GSAC softball tournament finals
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – Huntingdon senior Bree Giordana is known for her pitching, not for hitting the long ball. But Saturday afternoon, she did both in the second round of the Great South Athletic Conference softball tournament. The two-time GSAC Pitcher of the Year fired a three-hitter, struck out nine and hit her first career home run to lead Huntingdon in a 3-1 win over Piedmont. The win puts the Lady Hawks (27-13) in the GSAC tournament championship game on Sunday at 11 a.m. CST.

Payne’s homer lifts Lady Hawks in GSAC softball tournament
MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon softball team had a tough test to open the first round of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament on Friday. Huntingdon senior Aleah Payne broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth as the Lady Hawks knocked off LaGrange 1-0.

Huntingdon’s Payne, Giordana and Williams take top GSAC softball honors
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's softball team picked up three of the Great South Athletic Conference's top softball awards on Thursday. With the release of the GSAC All-Conference awards, senior Aleah Payne was named GSAC Player of the Year, senior Bree Giordana was named GSAC Pitcher of the Year and head coach Gynger Williams was named GSAC Coach of the Year.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team closed out the regular season with a pair of losses to Berry on Sunday. The Lady Hawks lost 5-0 in the first game and 4-3 in eight innings in the second game.

Huntingdon softball clinches regular-season GSAC title
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team got off to a slow start on Saturday, but the Lady Hawks rallied for a 5-3 win over Covenant and clinched the regular-season Great South Athletic Conference title. Huntingdon (25-11) closed out conference play with a 15-1 record in the GSAC. The regular-season title is the first for Huntingdon under fourth-year head coach Gynger Williams.

Huntingdon softball splits with conference rival Piedmont
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Bree Giordana threw a two-hitter to lead the Huntingdon softball team to a 1-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader with Piedmont on Thursday. But the Lions took the second game 7-5. The Lady Hawks (24-11, 14-1 Great South Athletic Conference) need a win over Covenant on Saturday to clinch the regular season GSAC title and earn the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament. Piedmont (19-9) is 12-2 in the GSAC with two games to play.

Huntingdon softball sweeps Maryville to improve to 13-0 in GSAC
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team got off to a strong start in Game 1 and came from behind to win Game 2 in a 9-1 and 6-3 sweep of Maryville on Saturday. Entering their final Great South Athletic Conference doubleheader on Monday, the Lady Hawks (23-10) are 13-0 in the GSAC.

Huntingdon softball splits with Birmingham-Southern
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team came up short in Game 1, but the Lady Hawks earned a split with Birmingham-Southern on Friday. After giving up a run in the top of the seventh in a 2-1 loss in the first game, Huntingdon responded with a 6-4 win in Game 2. The Lady Hawks (21-10) have won 13 of their last 16 games.

Payne And Krafft Earn Weekly GSAC Softball Honors
DECATUR, Ga.- Closing in on the conference tournament in two weeks, the Great South Athletic Conference announces this week's softball weekly awards. Chelsea Krafft of Covenant and Aleah Payne of Huntingdon earn this week's Pitcher and Player of the week awards, respectively. This is the first time for the honor this season for Krafft and the second straight for Payne.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Senior Bree Giordana pitched a one-hit shutout and junior Melissa McClure threw a four-hitter to help the Huntingdon softball team sweep LaGrange on Tuesday. Huntingdon took the first game 4-0 and won the second game 3-2.

Huntingdon softball improves to 9-0 in GSAC
DECATUR, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team swept its third straight doubleheader with two wins over conference rival Agnes Scott on Wednesday. The Lady Hawks came from behind to win the first game 6-3. Huntingdon won the second game 16-0 in five innings.

Payne and Folds Earn Weekly Softball Honors
DECATUR, Ga.- Entering the final month of the softball season, the Great South Athletic Conference is pleased to announce Kayla Folds of LaGrange and Aleah Payne of Huntingdon as this week's softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. This is the first time this season for Folds and the second for Payne.

Payne’s 10 RBIs lead Huntingdon in sweep of Wesleyan
MACON, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team picked up its eighth win in 10 games with a 14-2 and 28-0 sweep of Wesleyan on Sunday. Both games were five innings. Senior Aleah Payne led Huntingdon (16-9, 7-0 Great South Athletic Conference) at the plate, going 9-for-9 with 10 RBIs, eight runs, five triples, two doubles and five stolen bases in the two games.

Huntingdon softball remains unbeaten in Great South Athletic Conference
ATLANTA – The Huntingdon softball team rapped out 37 hits and scored 44 runs in a pair of five-inning games against Spelman on Thursday. The Lady Hawks took the first game 21-2 and finished the doubleheader with a 23-0 win in Game 2.

CLINTON, Miss. – The Huntingdon softball team dropped two games at Mississippi College on Tuesday. The Choctaws swept Huntingdon 10-0 and 15-1.

Welch’s two home runs and six RBIs help spark Huntingdon softball
JACKSON, Miss. – Sophomore Lauren Welch hit two home runs and drove in six runs to help lead the Huntingdon softball team in a sweep of Millsaps on Sunday. The Lady Hawks won the first game 9-4 in eight innings and took the second game 10-5.

Huntingdon sweeps Salem in GSAC doubleheader
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Brittany Richardson closed Game 1 with a three-run home run and a Bree Giordana sacrifice fly ended Game 2 as the Huntingdon softball team picked up a pair of 9-1 wins over Salem College on Saturday. Both games were shortened to five innings due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Huntingdon softball splits with Spring Hill in first home games of the season
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Holly Ostrander bunted in Aleah Payne in the bottom of the 11th inning to help the Huntingdon softball team win its home opener on Wednesday. The 8-7 win over Spring Hill was followed by a 6-5 loss to the Badgers in Game 2. Huntingdon (8-7) had opened the season with 13 straight road games.

Huntingdon softball drops two games in Roanoke Valley Softball Bash
SALEM, Va. – The Huntingdon softball team lost its final two games in the Roanoke Valley Softball Bash on Sunday. The Lady Hawks lost to Randolph-Macon 5-1 in the first game and fell to Ferrum 9-1 in the second game.

Huntingdon softball splits on Day 1 of Roanoke Valley Softball Bash
SALEM, Va. – The Huntingdon softball team picked up a 7-run win in its first game of the Roanoke Valley Softball Bash but lost a 9-run game to end the day. Huntingdon opened Saturday with an 11-4 win over Rochester College before Roanoke knocked off the Lady Hawks 10-1.

Huntingdon softball shuts out Covenant in conference opener
LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Huntingdon scored in four of the first five innings and pitcher Bree Giordana shut down Covenant’s bats in the softball team’s 8-0 win on Thursday. The Lady Hawks were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but the second game was postponed due to rain.

Giordana and Greene Claim Softball Weekly Honors
DECATUR,Ga.- Things are heating up as the Great South Athletic Conference softball teams head into play during the month of March. The GSAC is pleased to announce this week's Pitcher and Player of the Week honorees in Bree Giordana from Huntingdon and Avi Greene of Agnes Scott. This is the second straight week Giordana claims the award and first this season for Greene.

Huntingdon softball downs Transylvania, falls to #5 Emory
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Huntingdon softball team split in a pair of games at Emory on Sunday. The Lady Hawks knocked off Transylvania 11-2 in the first game of the day but came up short in a 3-2 loss to fifth-ranked Emory. The win was Emory's ninth straight.

DECATUR,Ga.- Kicking off the 2012 softball season in stellar fashion, Bree Giordana and Holly Ostrander of Huntingdon earn the first Great South Athletic Conference softball pitcher and player of the week honors. The duo earned this honor last year for their play for the Lady Hawks softball team.

Huntingdon softball sweeps Spring Hill
MOBILE, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team pulled out a pair of one-run wins to sweep Spring Hill on Tuesday. The Lady Hawks scored in the top of the sixth to win the first game 2-1 and stopped the Badgers with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to take the second game 2-1.

Ostrander’s single lifts Huntingdon softball in bottom of the seventh
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Huntingdon sophomore Holly Ostrander will be the first to say Sunday's 5-4 win over Alabama A&M took more than one player. But Ostrander certainly did her part for the Huntingdon softball team in its final game of the Birmingham-Southern Invitational. Trailing 4-3 with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and runners on second and third, Ostrander singled to right field to score Brittany Richardson and Lauren Welch to end the game.

Huntingdon softball splits on opening day
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team earned a split in its first two games of the season. The Lady Hawks faced Birmingham-Southern College and Centre in the Birmingham-Southern Invitational on Saturday. Huntingdon opened with a 3-2 loss to BSC in eight innings and finished the day with a 16-8 win against Centre.

Huntingdon softball has unfinished business in 2012
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon softball team hasn’t forgotten how the 2011 season ended. Huntingdon reached the finals of the Great South Athletic Conference tournament, but lost twice to Piedmont. The Lady Hawks had more they wanted to accomplish. This season, Huntingdon wants to build off of last year and learn from the late-season letdown.
