MACON, Ga. --- Huntingdon's College's sophomore Melissa McClure recorded her second straight Great South Athletic Conference tournament win on Saturday, 4-3, against LaGrange College in Macon, Georgia. The Lady Hawks will play in the GSAC tournament championship game on Sunday, May 1, at 12 p.m. Eastern against the winner of the loser's bracket.
McClure (14-9) registered six strike outs and only allowed three runs on eight hits in seven innings of action on Saturday.
LaGrange (22-18) took the early lead scoring two runs, 2-0, in the top of the 1st inning against Huntingdon. The Panthers' pitching staff struck out eight Huntingdon batters in the one run decision, but the Lady Hawks made the most of their six total hits.
The Lady Hawks tied up the game after freshman Holly Ostrander belted a two run homer in the bottom of the 1st inning, 2-2.
Huntingdon took a two run advantage following the bottom of the 3rd inning after junior Brittney Novickis and senior Jessica Sharker each recorded RBI-doubles against LaGrange.
The Panthers cut the margin to one run, 4-3, in the top of the 5th inning but Huntingdon's defense kept LaGrange scoreless in the final two innings with McClure recording a strike out for the final out in the one run victory.
At the plate, Novickis (2-for-3) and Sharker (2-for-3) each paced Huntingdon with two hits in the win. Ostrander's homer led the team with two-RBI's against LaGrange at Wesleyan College's campus.
Huntingdon (26-14) will play in the GSAC tournament championship game on Sunday, May 1, beginning at 12 p.m. Eastern. The Lady Hawks' opponent will be determined this evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. Eastern between LaGrange and the winner of the Piedmont College/Maryville College game.
