MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team scored five runs late to beat Emory University 8-4 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game non-conference series.

Weather permitting, Game 2 will be played on Saturday at Posey Field. A decision on the game time will be made Saturday morning.

On Friday, the 17th-ranked Hawks (22-7) led early but fell behind 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning. Huntingdon regained control of the game with three runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth inning.

Wes Powell scored on a wild pitch to tie the game and Heath Haskins scored on an error to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead. Garrett Breland scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.

Huntingdon closed the scoring in the eighth inning with a two-run double by Haskins.

Haskins and Powell each finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Haskins had two doubles and Powell had two stolen bases.

Breland finished with an RBI and a run and Chris Fisher, Nick Swisher and Bradley Harris each scored one run.

Jacob Munn (3-1) picked up the win in 1 2/3 innings of relief and John Crawford earned his fifth save of the season in the final 1 2/3 innings. Munn (three), Crawford (four) and starter Carden Mellown (six) combined for 13 strikeouts.

Coming Up: Weather permitting, Game 2 will be played at Posey Field on Saturday. If the two teams are unable to play on Saturday, the series will conclude at Emory on Sunday.
