BREVARD, N.C. – The 11th-ranked Huntingdon baseball team earned a split with Brevard in the first two games of a three-game conference series on Saturday.

The Hawks lost the first game 2-1 and won the second game 5-1. The two teams will wrap up the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Huntingdon (15-3, 7-3 USA South) fell behind 2-0 in the first five innings of Game 1. The Hawks made it a one run game in the seventh inning when Andrew Knight doubled to drive in Garrett Breland.

The Hawks put a runner in scoring position in the ninth inning but could not bring the run in. Huntingdon finished Game 1 with three hits.

Carden Mellown (2-1) took the loss in six innings, striking out three, walking three, allowing six hits and one earned run. Tucker Duke pitched the final two innings, striking out two and walking one. 

Brooks Freeman (5-1) earned the win in Game 2 with six strikeouts, three walks, seven hits and one earned run in eight innings before John Crawford pitched the final inning.

The Hawks never trailed in Game 2, building a 5-0 lead with one run in the fifth inning, three runs in the sixth inning and a run in the seventh inning.

Colton Clark was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Will Cosby and Chris Fisher were each 2-for-4 with an RBI and Knight was 2-for-5 with a run. Breland drove in one run and scored one run, Nick Swisher drove in one run and Heath Haskins and Jake Elrod each scored one run.
