  • Three Hawks earn All-Conference baseball honors

    FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Three Huntingdon players were recognized with the release of the USA South All-Conference baseball awards on Wednesday. Freshman Tucker Duke was named Rookie Pitcher of the Year, junior shortstop Wes Powell was named first-team All-Conference and junior pitcher Wallace Henry was named second-team All-Conference. Senior Garrett Breland was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

    FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Huntingdon baseball player Tucker Duke was chosen as one of the USA South Athletes of the Week on Monday.                                                            The freshman was named the Rookie Pitcher of the Week. This is the second time this season the Pulaski, Tenn., native has earned the recognition and the seventh time this spring a Huntingdon pitcher has been recognized as Pitcher of the Week or Rookie Pitcher of the Week.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team lost the first two games of a three-game conference series with 14th-ranked Piedmont on Friday. The two teams opened the series on Thursday night and played through the top of the seventh inning before weather postponed the game. After the final 2 ½ innings were played on Friday, Piedmont picked up a 10-3 victory. Huntingdon lost the second game 8-3.

    LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The 12th-ranked Huntingdon baseball team split with Covenant in a doubleheader on Saturday but finished the weekend with another USA South Athletic Conference series win. Huntingdon lost the first game on Saturday 6-4 before closing the day with a 16-1 win in eight innings. Huntingdon won the first game of the series 12-10 on Friday.

    LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team opened its conference series with Covenant with a 12-10 win on Friday. In a game that saw the two teams combine for 30 hits and 22 runs, 12th-ranked Huntingdon put together a season-high 20 hits and took the lead for good in the seventh inning.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team built an eight-run lead in the first two innings and knocked off Methodist University 16-2 in a Top-20 matchup on Friday night in the first game of a three-game conference series. The game was shortened to seven innings by the USA South Athletic Conference’s 12-run rule. Game 2 of the series is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday.

The Hawks lost 14-11 in Game 1 and lost 17-3 in a shortened eight-inning game to close the conference series. Huntingdon won the first game of the series 5-4 on Friday night.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team cracked the top-10 with the release of Tuesday’s D3baseball.com national Top-25 poll. After entering the poll at No. 22 last week, the Hawks (12-0) climbed to No. 10 in this week’s poll. This is Huntingdon’s highest ranking in the poll since D3baseball.com began producing the weekly poll in 2011.

    FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Two Huntingdon baseball players were recognized as Athletes of the Week by the USA South Athletic Conference on Monday. In the third Athletes of the Week for baseball this season, Wes Powell was named Player of the Week and John Crawford was named Pitcher of the Week. Powell is the first Player of the Week for the 22nd-ranked Hawks this season. Crawford is the third different Huntingdon pitcher to be recognized this season

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 22nd-ranked Huntingdon baseball team earned its second conference sweep of the season with a pair of wins against Maryville on Saturday. The Hawks took the first game 11-7 and capped the day with a 6-3 victory. Game 3 of the series, which was scheduled for Sunday, was canceled due to the weather forecast.

    MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon baseball team’s series opener with Maryville was postponed from Friday night to Saturday due to the weather. The two teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday at Posey Field. The first game is set for 2 p.m. with the second game to follow. Weather permitting, Game 3 of the series will be played on Sunday at noon.
