Hawks edge Piedmont in Game 3 of USA South series

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Huntingdon baseball team bounced back with an 8-6 win over Piedmont on Sunday in the final game of a conference series.

Piedmont won the first two games of the USA South Athletic Conference series, 3-2 in 12 innings in Game 1 and 4-3 in Game 2.

In Sunday's win, Huntingdon took an 8-2 lead in the top of the seventh and was able to hold off a late rally by the Lions. Piedmont scored one run in the seventh and three runs in the eighth inning to make it a two-run game.

Reliever John Crawford earned the save in the ninth inning, striking out two batters, walking one and forcing a fly out to end the game. Starting pitcher Brooks Freeman (2-2) earned the win in 6 2/3 innings. Freeman finished with eight strikeouts, walked five, scattered six hits and allowed three earned runs.

Taylor Fought, Chris Fisher, Wes Powell, Joseph Calvert and Will Cosby combined for 12 of the Hawks' 15 hits.

Fought finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Fisher was 3-for-5 with two runs. Powell had two hits, an RBI and two runs, Calvert had two hits and two RBIs and Cosby had a pair of doubles and scored once.                        

Garrett Headley scored three runs and Bradley Harris and Coleson Taylor each had one RBI.
