MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Huntingdon baseball team won Game 1 and lost Game 2 on Friday to open a three-game USA South Athletic Conference series.
The Hawks won the opener 7-2 before falling 11-3 in Game 2.
Huntingdon used a five-run fourth inning to take control in Game 1. A two-run double by Taylor Fought, a two-run single by Will Cosby and an RBI double by Joseph Calvert put the Hawks in front 5-0. Huntingdon added two more runs in the eighth inning on a two-run single by Jud Owens to make it 7-1.
Cosby finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, Fought had two RBIs and two runs and Calvert had one RBI. Owens had two RBIs and Wes Powell had two hits and a run. Garrett Breland scored two runs and Garrett Headley scored one run.
In Game 2, Maryville took a 4-0 lead in the first four innings. Huntingdon scored a run in the fifth inning and in the sixth inning, but Maryville answered and built an 11-2 lead in the eighth inning.
Headley and Fought each had two hits. Headley also scored one run. Calvert had an RBI and a run, Powell drove in one run and Cosby scored one run.
Blake Mayes (2-3) took the loss in four innings in Game 2.
